Modernizing Space while Honoring History
Historic home bedroom addition and bathroom renovation
They say that everything old is new again (and if you’ve seen the resurgence of high-waisted jeans, you know what we’re talking about!).
The goal of this Ridgefield Park bathroom renovation and bedroom addition was to make the home livable for a modern family while preserving the historical charm of the 1930s. (Check out the “before” of this transformation story here!)
Our clients are head over heels in love with their home, but were ready to make some changes to create a space that would work better for their family. The family of four shares the sole bathroom, and it was badly in need of an update. And since the third bedroom is too small to fit a full-size bed, it’s configured as an office while the son and daughter shared a room.
This project is a great example of how we work with clients to prioritize design choices according to budget. While we discussed adding a second bathroom, that would have outstripped the budget.
Instead, we focused on making the existing bathroom feel beautiful and luxurious. We replaced the outdated green tile and clunky fixtures. The style is sleek and classic, featuring a wall-hung toilet, floor-to-ceiling tiled walls laid in a herringbone pattern, and a beautiful new tub and shower.
Above the existing TV room, we created a brand-new bedroom customized for a young girl, but able to grow with her up through her teenage years. She was able to have input into the design choices, which was a joy for everyone! The room features built-in bookcases and drawers for storage, plus a window seat inspired by a show she loves, where she can sit and chat with friends. The epic closet combines shelving and pull-out drawers to provide plenty of space for clothes, shoes and toys.
From the exterior of the house, you’ll see how the addition was created alongside the existing bedroom, with the entire roofline reconfigured to integrate it seamlessly. Our clients also updated their siding in a beautiful blue, which gave the entire house a fresh look.
We loved transforming this historic home into one the owners could love for many years to come.
