A Bathroom of Our Own
Privacy and Luxury
Creating a home you love living in requires the willingness to adjust and update your space as your family’s needs change. That’s exactly what we did in this project, where we added a master bath and renovated the existing bathroom in a Jersey City historic brownstone.
You may remember from our recent project in process that this family of three shared the house’s one full bathroom. As their son approached his teenage years, the parents recognized that creating their own private master bath and renovating the existing hall bathroom would significantly increase their family’s overall quality of life. (As a bonus, adding a bathroom can increase your home’s value.)
We designed the brand-new master bathroom to feel luxurious. With its placement, we maximized the size of the master bedroom and capitalized on the natural light from a front-facing window. Wood French doors lend a grandness to the entrance, while custom wainscoting and deep blue paint provide a beautiful contrast. A glass shower enclosure and gorgeous finishes complete the elegant effect.
Our team also adjusted the layout of the hall bathroom to create a better landing at the top of the stairs. Light blue walls, white shower tile and a white countertop brighten up the room and contrast nicely with the dark wood vanity and dark blue penny floor tile. The new look retains the house’s traditional style while mixing in a bright, open feel.
Finally, we rebuilt the staircase, added skylights to the upstairs den to let in more light, and installed beautiful new hardwood flooring throughout the second floor.
This family has made the upstairs of their home, where so much of our private living is done, into an oasis of function, beauty and calm that will carry them through the next phase of their family life. We’ve been honored to be part of this work!
Have you ever wondered if you could add a bathroom to your home – or convert a half-bath to a full? We created our newest service, the Vision & Planning Session, specifically to help clients answer questions like this. We’ll help you brainstorm what’s possible and give you a clear idea of what to expect.
