Houseplay on HGTV’s My First Renovation
Houseplay was honored to be featured on an episode of HGTV’s My First Renovation. As you’d expect, the show follows families through the often-arduous process of completing their first home renovation.
As the show’s main page noted, “ … Renovations are often cited as one of the most stressful things a couple can undertake! For first-timers, the experience will be one they remember forever … ”
We’re proud to have played a role in this memorable, life-changing experience. As the Jersey City, NJ homeowners noted, “A small apartment with an even smaller kitchen … not a good recipe for a family with three young children! That’s why we wanted to open it up with a remodel.”
During this episode, we shopped for materials, developed a design, tore down walls, created space, and transformed this family’s home! It was a challenge to complete the project in a short timeframe, but we had a great time working with the homeowners and the HGTV production crew.

What’s it Like to Work with Us … on National TV?
Here’s what the Jersey City, NJ apartment owner had to say about the experience of working with us on their family-minded kitchen makeover … on national TV, no less!
“Houseplay handled a complete transformation of our kitchen …. We were so impressed with their many creative solutions …. It was our first renovation, so we needed lots of guidance and hand-holding. They responded promptly to our many questions, requests and concerns, and their team was always courteous and respectful of our home.
We were even able to stay throughout the renovation, and our three children enjoyed having them around. Our new kitchen turned out even more beautiful, functional, and spacious than we had hoped. We … spend hours in our kitchen every day, and we still absolutely love it … ”
While your first home renovation may not be featured on national television, it’s still a significant milestone, and we’d love to help you through the process.
Houseplay in The Digest Online
The article showcasing our work in a historic Jersey City NJ apartment, “Feels Like Home” begins as follows:
Claire Cinquina and her family bought their apartment in 2002. The 1,200-square-foot-space itself is part of a historic building overlooking Hamilton Park in Jersey City. From the beginning, Cinquina and her husband weren’t sure they would be staying long-term, which is the reason why they chose not to update the apartment …. If they were going to stay, they needed a full home renovation.
Houseplay was also featured in a July 2015 article at The Digest Online, “Houseplay Renovations: From Vision to Completion.”
It’s no secret that renovating or building a home can be stressful. Between fishing through different contractors, figuring out a budget, and maintaining a normal family life, it’s enough to take one’s sanity. In fact, it can be so disruptive that there’s even help sites with titles like, “How to Remodel and Keep Your Marriage Together.”
The Digest is the premier Lifestyle Magazine of Hoboken, Jersey City and Hudson County NJ, supporting local businesses and communities as well. Established in 2009, The Digest reaches 30,000 homeowners and businesses each month.
